AI Weekly Review: Agents Reach Production, and Execution Decides.

Week of 18 to 25 August 2026: almost every company plans to use agentic AI, but only a small minority runs it in production. OpenAI cuts prices, Anthropic makes the core agent building blocks generally available, and AWS lets agents pay on their own.

AI Weekly Review: Agents Reach Production, and Execution Decides

This week shows a clear gap. Almost every company wants to use agentic AI, yet only a small minority actually runs it in production. At the same time, the large providers are making exactly that easier: OpenAI is cutting prices and expanding its control features, Anthropic has moved central agent building blocks to general availability, and AWS now lets agents pay on their own. For companies the message is simple. The tools are here. The difference is made in execution.

1. The Reality of Agentic AI: 99 Percent Want It, Around 10 Percent Deliver

A report widely quoted this week puts a sobering number on the table: around 99% of companies plan to use agentic AI, but only about 9 to 14% actually put it into production. The usual reason is that visible success and measurable change fail to materialize.

AImpact take: This is the key story of the week, because it puts the focus in the right place. The bottleneck is no longer the technology, it is the execution: clearly bounded use cases, a clean data foundation, defined responsibilities, and a measurable result. Start with one process that produces a tangible outcome, such as quote generation or support triage, instead of a large "AI strategy" without concrete output.

2. OpenAI: Lower Prices and More Control for Companies

OpenAI announced two changes that matter in practice: a price cut of more than 20% for GPT-5.6 "Sol" for the next three months, and a clear expansion of admin and governance features for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and EDU, including workspace-level admin APIs, an improved admin console, and usage analytics.

AImpact take: For mid-sized companies this is good news twice over. Lower prices reduce the barrier to broader rollouts, and better administration tools make AI in the company controllable: permissions, usage, cost. That governance layer is exactly what turns a pilot project into responsible day-to-day operation. If you already work with ChatGPT, start monitoring usage and cost actively now.

3. Anthropic: The Building Blocks for AI Agents Are Production Ready

Anthropic moved several central features of its Claude developer platform to general availability: Computer Use, Browser Use, the Files API and the Skills API. Agents now handle structured websites more reliably, process files, and use reusable "skills". A reworked playground environment in the console came with it.

AImpact take: General availability is more than a technical detail. It signals maturity for production use. Agents that carry out real tasks in a browser or in existing systems are no longer an experiment, they are usable building blocks. The practical lever sits in reusable skills: workflows defined cleanly once, repeatable reliably. That is the foundation for real automation.

4. AWS: Agents May Now Pay and Research on the Web

At AWS, two relevant features reached general availability: AgentCore Payments, which lets agents spend money independently based on rules, and Bedrock Web Search for managed web research directly inside agent workflows. Persistent runtime environments for multi-step agent processes were added alongside them.

AImpact take: Agents that pay autonomously are an opportunity and a risk at the same time. The opportunity: end-to-end processes without manual intermediate steps, in purchasing or subscription management. The risk: without hard spending limits, approval thresholds and complete logs, efficiency quickly turns into loss of control. Introduce these capabilities only with clear guardrails: budget caps, four-eyes approval above a threshold, full logs.

5. Agent Standards Consolidate: A2A and MCP Under One Roof

The Agent2Agent protocol (A2A) initiated by Google moved this week as a hosted project under the roof of the Agentic AI Foundation, the same organization that hosts the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Reports put the foundation at more than 250 member organizations. The two most important open standards for agent communication and tool integration are moving closer together.

AImpact take: Standards sound unspectacular, but for companies they are the best protection against lock-in. When agents and tools speak over open protocols, providers can be swapped later without rebuilding everything. For procurement that means one concrete thing: ask new AI vendors whether they support MCP or A2A. It is a simple filter, and it holds up over time.

6. DeepSeek: Image Understanding at the Price of Plain Text

With V4-Flash-Vision (experimental), DeepSeek presented a multimodal variant that offers image understanding at the previous price of plain text processing, pushing price competition in the open model segment further.

AImpact take: The trend is clear. Multimodality, text and image, is becoming cheap standard equipment instead of a paid extra. For mid-sized companies that opens up affordable applications, such as reading invoices, delivery notes or product photos automatically. If you still type such documents in by hand, look closely here. The business case increasingly adds up.

Conclusion

The message of the week is clear. The tools are getting cheaper, more mature and easier to control. The difference is now made in execution. Companies that pilot one concrete process with a measurable result move past those still thinking about the big AI strategy. The real competitive field is shifting from "which model?" to "which process, and how controlled?".

Pick one process where AI can deliver a visible result within the next 30 days. That single decision is worth more than another quarter of evaluation.
